What are dental implants and why are they becoming so popular? This is a question you may be asking yourself on the regular. Dental implants are becoming extremely widespread and spoken about by many. Dental implants are a permanent solution for those who need a smile reconstruction. From one reason to the next, dental implants may be the perfect option for you to regain your confidence, begin eating all of the foods you love once again, and not having to worry about embarrassing denture moments.
It is important to understand that dental implants may not be the perfect solution for everyone. This may be because of many different reasons: from the money associated with the procedure, or the health of the patient’s teeth, soft tissue and disease.
When you decide to go through the dental implant procedure, you will meet with your doctor to go over your health and any further details that pertain to the treatment plan. When you are at this consultation, your dentist will check your oral cavity for the strength of your jawbone, and its overall density, and how your soft tissue is holding up. If everything is healthy and strong, you can move along with the procedure that is decided upon. If you are not up to par with the healthiness of your oral cavity, your doctor will go over necessary treatments that will need to occur.
If your jawbone will not be able to hold the implant, you may choose to undergo bone grafting. This is where your doctor will implant your bone or donor bone to ensure you have enough strength to hold the implant. If your jawbone is fine but your gums are receding, you can do soft tissue grafting, which provides more gums where you’re lacking. If you choose to not undergo these procedures, you risk your implant failing or your doctor may not move on with the surgery. It is important to know that if you undergo the extra procedures, the cost of the overall surgery will go up to cover the treatments.
